Privacy notice
Last updated 4 November 2026.
1. Who we are
The LegalQuants Residency is run by Legal Quants, an exempted company incorporated in the Cayman Islands (company number 432239). Its registered office is at Mourant Governance Services (Cayman) Limited, 94 Solaris Avenue, Camana Bay, PO Box 1348, Grand Cayman KY1-1108, Cayman Islands. We call it "LegalQuants", "we" or "us".
We decide why and how your personal data is used for the Residency. In data protection terms, we are the controller.
Contact for anything in this notice: admin@legalquants.com.
We have not appointed a data protection officer, because the law does not require one for an organisation of our kind and size.
2. Who this notice is for
This notice is for anyone who visits residency.legalquants.com, joins the waitlist, reserves a seat, enrols or pays, or receives email from us about the Residency.
If you join the Residency or the Foundations course, you will also be shown a programme privacy notice when you sign in. It explains how we handle what you do inside the programme. Both notices then apply to you.
The main LegalQuants website has its own privacy policy.
3. What we collect before you join
| What | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Name, email address, firm or organisation, practice area, years post-qualification, billing address | You, at Stripe Checkout |
| Payment status and receipts. We do not see your full card number; Stripe holds it | Stripe |
| Your email address and cohort interest | You, when you join the waitlist or reserve a seat |
| Emails we send you, and whether they were delivered or bounced | Our email provider |
| Messages you send us | You |
| Pages you visit, and sign-in cookies | Your use of the site |
4. Who sees it
Our team can read all of it. If you enrol, your mentor sees your firm, practice area and years post-qualification, so that they can prepare for your first call. We do not contact your firm or organisation about your participation.
5. Why we use it
| Purpose | Legal basis (UK GDPR and EU GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Take payment, enrol you, check cohort fit, match you with a mentor, give you access | Contract with you, including steps you ask for before a contract |
| Tell you about future cohorts and similar LegalQuants programmes | If you bought or reserved a seat: our legitimate interests, under the rules for emailing existing customers. You can opt out at any time. Otherwise: your agreement |
| Keep the site working and safe, prevent fraud, defend legal claims | Our legitimate interests |
| Keep accounting and tax records | Our legal obligations |
| Use information that no longer identifies anyone, for any purpose | Not personal data |
If you live in Hong Kong, we collect and use your data for the purposes above. Giving us your name, email and payment details is needed to enrol. Telling us your firm, practice area and experience lets us place you in a cohort and match you with a mentor. We send Hong Kong residents marketing email only after they agree to it.
6. Who handles data for us
| Company | What for |
|---|---|
| Stripe | Payments |
| Clerk | Sign-in |
| Neon | Database |
| Vercel | Hosting, file storage, visitor counts |
| Resend |
Once you join, more companies handle your data. The programme privacy notice lists them. We may also share data when the law requires it, to protect people, to defend a legal claim, or as part of a sale or reorganisation of our business.
7. Sending data to other countries
When you give us your data, it comes to us in the Cayman Islands. Our providers handle it mainly in the United States. Where the law requires a safeguard for that, we rely on each provider's data protection terms. These use the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension, or the standard contractual clauses approved by the UK and the EU. You can ask us for details.
8. How long we keep it
- Payment and accounting records: seven years after the payment.
- Marketing email: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only a record that you unsubscribed, so that we do not email you again.
- Everything else: six years after our last contact with you, or the rule in the programme privacy notice if you join. Six years is how long legal claims can be brought in most places where our residents live.
After that, we delete the data or remove what identifies you. We may keep information that no longer identifies anyone without limit.
9. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR you can ask us to:
- tell you whether we hold your data and give you a copy;
- correct data that is wrong;
- erase your data;
- restrict how we use it;
- stop using it where we rely on our legitimate interests;
- give you your data in a portable format;
- stop relying on your agreement, at any time. Withdrawing does not affect what we did before.
We reply within one month. For complex or repeated requests, the law lets us take up to two more months, and we will tell you if we do.
Under Hong Kong law you can ask for a copy of your personal data and ask us to correct it. We reply within 40 days. We may charge a fee for a copy, where the law allows, and it will not be excessive.
These rights have limits. When you ask us to erase your data, we delete it or remove what identifies you. We keep what we need to meet the law and to defend legal claims, and a record of your request and of what you agreed.
To use a right, email admin@legalquants.com. We may ask you to confirm who you are.
Complaints. You can complain to us first. You can also complain to:
- the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk);
- your national data protection authority in the EU;
- the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong (pcpd.org.hk);
- the Office of the Ombudsman, Cayman Islands (ombudsman.ky).
If you live in the United States, your state's law may give you further rights. Contact us and we will help.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is by role. Our providers are bound by their own security terms. No system is perfectly safe. If a breach puts you at risk, we will tell you and the regulators as the law requires.
11. Cookies, tracking and Do Not Track
We use cookies that sign you in and keep you signed in. They are needed for the platform to work. We count visits with Vercel Analytics, which does not use cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not let third parties track you across other websites through our site. Our site does not change what it does when your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
12. Under 18s
The Residency is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
13. Changes
We may update this notice. Changes take effect when we post them here. If a change matters, we change the date at the top and tell you.
